We are grateful for your interest in becoming part of our team—a group of likeminded professionals who work together to create a Berkshires where everyone has an opportunity to thrive.
Our patient numbers are growing exponentially, and we just opened a second care center in Pittsfield that will double our number of available appointments. Additional volunteers are crucial to this expansion! Below you will find a basic description for each open position in the clinic, as well as an application form if you are ready to get started.
Volunteer Opportunities

Medical Doctors (MDs), Osteopaths (DOs), Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), Physician Assistants (PAs), Registered Nurses (RNs), (Family Nurse Practitioners) FNPs, or Medical Assistants (MAs)
Our volunteer clinicians are an integral part of our healthcare team, delivering primary and specialized medical care to our patients. This role is especially suited for physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of those who are often overlooked in traditional healthcare settings.
Our volunteer medical providers commit to a minimum of one 4-hour rotation per month.

Medical Doctors (MDs), PhD (Clinical Psychology) or Licensed Independent Social Workers (LICSW). Bilingual in Spanish or Portuguese a plus!
Our mental health providers support our diverse patient population, many of whom face unique challenges due to migration, cultural adjustment, and language barriers as they work to settle with their families in communities and systems that are foreign to them. Many of our patients have emigrated from countries with complex political, social, and economic environments and they have come to the United Sates seeking safer environment for them and their families.
Since much of our behavioral health is done via telehealth, volunteer schedules are extremely flexible.

Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD), Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH), or Licensed Dental Assistant (LDA)
Our Volunteer Dental Care Providers play a crucial role in delivering essential dental services to a diverse community of patients, many of whom have never received dental care. This position involves direct patient care, including diagnosis, treatment, and education on oral health. You will work with a passionate team of dental professionals and volunteers dedicated to making a significant impact on our patients' lives.
Our volunteer dental care providers commit to minimum of one 4-hour rotation per month.

OD or MD
At ViM, we understand the importance of eye health as a critical component of the overall well-being of our diverse patient population. Our optometry clinic is equipped to provide comprehensive eye exams, vision tests, and basic eye care. We also offer consultations for eye health concerns and provide glasses to those in need. We provide these services in the patient’s native language, if needed, and assign an interpreter to assist the provider in addressing the patients’ needs.
Our optometry providers commit to a minimum of one 4-hour rotation per quarter.

As a nonprofit committed to comprehensive care, our focus extends beyond traditional medical treatments, embracing a wide range of healing practices. We serve a diverse community, offering support to those who may not have access to these services. Whether you are a massage therapist, acupuncturist, or physical therapist, your expertise will contribute to our mission of creating equal access to those in need.
The time commitment is variable depending on specialty.

Community Health Worker (CHW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), and/or individuals with deep knowledge of immigrant community
At Volunteers in Medicine (ViM), we are committed to providing compassionate and culturally sensitive healthcare services to diverse communities, including recent immigrants and individuals from various cultural backgrounds. Our aim is to ensure that every individual receives care that is not only medically sound but also culturally and linguistically appropriate. We do this by creating a bridge for our patients to access services, resources, and information designed to support them as they settle in our communities.
A Community Health Worker (CHW/Caseworker) at ViM you will be at the forefront of our mission to bridge the gap between our healthcare services and the communities we serve, especially focusing on populations that have experienced migration. Your role is crucial in helping our patients and their families find, connect with, and obtain community resources. In addition, CHW’s assist patients in navigating unfamiliar systems, identifying gaps in services, and eliminating access barriers that promote health equity.
The time commitment is very flexible.

Bilingual in Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, or another language
Our volunteer medical interpreters are a key communication link between our healthcare providers and patients. Your role is vital in ensuring that all patients, regardless of their language abilities, have access to accurate and culturally sensitive medical information. You will help to overcome language barriers, enabling effective and empathetic healthcare delivery.
Most of our interpreters commit to a minimum of one 4-hour rotation per month. Others provide translation services remotely, allowing for more flexibility.

Our volunteer front desk assistants are the first point of contact for our patients and play a critical role in setting a welcoming tone for our clinic. Our Front Desk Volunteers welcome patients with warmth and understanding and assist them with their initial inquiries, ensuring a smooth flow of communication between patients, staff, and healthcare providers. They schedule appointments, update patient records, and answer incoming calls.
Our Front Desk Volunteers commit to a minimum of one 4-hour rotation per week or month.

A valid driver’s license and a good driver’s record are necessary.
Patient transportation is an integral part of our services, increasing accessibility for patients who may not have reliable transportation. This position is ideal for individuals who are compassionate, reliable, and committed to making healthcare more accessible to a diverse community of patients. Your contribution will significantly impact our patients.
The time commitment is variable.
