Dental Suites Donated
Volunteers In Medicine Berkshires (VIM) in Great Barrington has received new dental equipment worth more than $50,000, thanks to dental equipment manufacturer Midmark Corporation and Henry Schein Cares, the global corporate social responsibility program of Henry Schein, Inc., the world’s largest provider of health care products and services to office-based dental, animal health, and medical practitioners.
“This is clearly the largest and most significant in-kind donation we have ever received in our ten year history,” said VIM Board of Trustees Chair Arthur Peisner. “It’s the first time since our founding that our dental team has had new – rather than used – equipment to work with. “

VIM received two new dental “suites,” including chairs, lights, dentist and assistant workstations, associated equipment and a new sterilizer.
“The new suites were valued around $22,000 each and the sterilizer at $7,500, giving us a total value of $51,500,” said Peisner. “Our volunteer dentists and hygienists are thrilled.”
Midmark’s Vice President and General Manager, Dental Division Eric Shirley stated, “We are proud to work with our partners at Henry Schein and VIM to upgrade the facilities. The care VIM provides has always been community-centric and patient-focused, and having the latest in modern equipment and technology only helps advance those goals.”
In 2014, nine volunteer dentists, two hygienists and three dental assistants treated 354 patients in VIM’s dental clinic. These in-house services and procedures were valued at almost $500,000 at area prices. Over the past ten years, VIM dentists have seen 1,000 individual patients during more than 7,000 visits, offering free treatments valued at more than $3,000,000.
