Volunteers in Medicine Berkshires Seeks Director of Development
Volunteers in Medicine Berkshires (VIM) is a free healthcare center that provides access to quality, comprehensive care for income qualified, uninsured and underinsured adults living in the Berkshires.
VIM is a mission-driven, not-for-profit organization with passionate volunteers, generous donors and a dedicated staff. We are seeking a Director of Development who will share our passion for our mission and who will offer visionary leadership to help build and sustain our organization.
VIM’s full-time Director of Development will join VIM’s senior leadership team to help establish and articulate the organization’s comprehensive, long-term strategies and vision. The Director will supervise and motivate staff and volunteers to achieve all major gift, special event, grant and contributed income goals. The Director will also help establish and manage new campaign initiatives.
The Director of Development will work in close collaboration with VIM’s highly engaged members of the Board of Trustees and report directly to Executive Director Ilana Steinhauer, FNP-BC. Steinhauer is known for her clinical excellence and energetic outreach on behalf of VIM.
For the past 14 years, VIM has a built a solid base of loyal donors who support our fundraising events and campaigns. While individual donors are a significant base of support, foundations and community partners have grown in their awareness of our mission and in their support. We expect the Director of Development to leverage our current resources and good will, but also to produce solid results to allow VIM to grow, thrive and reach its fullest potential.
Our ideal candidate will be an experienced development professional who has demonstrated the ability to create strategic development plans and successfully implement those plans. The Director will manage all fundraising activities of the development team, supported by a part-time development assistant, a consulting grants coordinator, communications contractors and numerous volunteers.
The Director will work closely with the Board Chair and with the Development and Communications Committees and will be responsible for managing VIM’s communications for development and marketing. It is imperative that our Director have the ability to speak and write about our mission in clear, engaging and inspiring ways.
Our ideal candidate will be or become a resident of the Berkshires in order to develop professional and social connections in our community to enhance VIM’s position.
Since we opened our doors in 2004, demand for VIM’s services has grown despite government insurance programs. VIM has saved lives and treated thousands of patients in more than 40,000 clinical visits. VIM’s integrated services include medical and dental care, behavioral health services, optometry, nutrition counseling, massage and acupuncture.
VIM’s innovative programs, including Shared Medical Appointments, Non-Opioid Pain Management and Volunteer Drivers, are unique in Berkshire County. Our bilingual Patient Services Coordinator helps patients address critical non-medical issues, otherwise known as the Social Determinants of Health.
VIM has gained widespread recognition for its comprehensive care, winning the National Gold Medal Award from the Henry Schein Cares Foundation and an Excellence in Innovation Nomination from the Massachusetts Non-Profit Network. Two of VIM’s founders have been named Senior Volunteer Physician of the Year by the Massachusetts Medical Society and one awarded the American Medical Association’s Excellence in Volunteerism.
VIM Berkshires is affiliated with the Volunteers in Medicine Institute (VIMI), which has helped to establish an additional 88 free clinics in 26 states. Our shared mission and values are what binds VIMI members together. In 2004, when a dedicated group of doctors, business people and community volunteers established VIM Berkshires, we became the 30th VIMI facility nationally. VIM Berkshires was the first in New England and is still the only one in Massachusetts.
