Barry R. Shapiro Elected to Board

Prominent lawyer and non-profit activist Barry R. Shapiro has been elected to the VIM Berkshires Board of Trustees.

“Barry has demonstrated a strong commitment to our Berkshire community through his leadership roles in other area organizations and will bring that experience and dedication to his board position at VIM,” said Board Chairman Art Peisner.

Shapiro relocated full time to the Berkshires with his wife Marjorie in 2010 after several years here as a second homeowner.  “I initially learned about the great work that VIM does through my responsibilities at the Sohn Foundation, which has supported the clinic’s work for the past several years,” he said. “I’m looking forward to taking a more active role in the organization.”

Shapiro is Co-Chair of the Corporate Practice Group at Meyer, Suozzi, English and Klein, P.C.  He also serves as chairman of the Dr. Robert C. & Tina Sohn Foundation and as a director of New York public television station WNET, where he was a vice chairman from 2003 through 2006.

Shapiro’s other board affiliations include Shakespeare & Co., the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, Flying Cloud Institute, the New Marlborough Village Association and Project Native.    He is a graduate of Columbia University School of Law and Hofstra University and resides in New Marlborough, Massachusetts.
