Ilana Steinhauer, MSN, FNP-BC Joins VIM as Clinical Care Coordinator

Volunteers In Medicine, Berkshires (VIM) is very pleased to announce that Ilana Steinhauer will be returning in January as our new Clinical Care Coordinator. After graduating with honors from Wesleyan University and taking a year off to travel around the United States and South America, Ilana worked at VIM as our first intern in the fall of 2006. During more than a year at the clinic, she was involved with almost every phase of its operation, and her enthusiasm, ideas and commitment were major assets. Ilana attributes her desire to pursue a career as a nurse practitioner and her fascination with health education issues to the rewarding experience she had at VIM during that time.Ilana went to Simmons College where she earned a degree in nursing. She stayed on and, in May 2011, received her Master of Science in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner degrees and won The Pauline Wheble Tripp Award for Academic and Professional Excellence.

Ilana has practiced for the past two-and-a-half years as an Internal Medicine Nurse Practitioner at a busy, multi-disciplinary clinic, The Medical Group/Harvard Vanguard Associates, in Beverly, MA. There she provided acute and chronic care services to patients with diverse cultural backgrounds and care needs.   Her responsibilities included assessment, diagnosis, development and implementation of care plans, and follow-up care. She worked in close collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Her tasks also included helping implement a new Electronic Medical Record system, and providing training as needed for fellow providers.

Ilana is married and is the happy mother of twin boys. She says she is very excited to be returning to VIM and the Berkshires … and VIM is thrilled to welcome her back. She will begin her duties as Clinical Care Coordinator in January 2014.
